UC Berkely Exchange 2023-08-16—2024-01-01
Embark on the selected cheepest airline combo, from Hong Kong to Tokyo, Hawaii and then San Fransisco. It takes me almost a whole day to get there. Fortunately, all the processes went well and there were no visa issues in the connecting flights as I imagined.
Also, it was a great relief that the appartment rent from Situ Kalan was exactly there and we are not cheated. Can anyone imaine that a person gave 20000 Yuan as deposits to a stranger only for a couple of words on Wechat? That’s crazy and insane. This mistake and great explosure to risks should never happen again!
For the first month, we did not have the full equipment like nice cooker in the kitchen. All we ate are purely bread and pasta of several kinds with eggs and milk. Thwat a tragedy of the commons! I finally became the first person among four who couldn’t bear on this anymore. And since then, the free food “bought” from the UC Berkely’s food pantry once a week got its destination. And we found a great platform called “Weee!”, which is a Chinese oversea online food shopping platform. It were the ribs and pork saved my life. Otherwise, these ones in the market seemed like unaffordable.
Maybe it’s a better way to narrate in teh perspective of discussing my roomates instead of in the chronic order,
To be teh first, Yiyong Tong may be the most impressive one. He got his high-school education in Wisconsin and then undergraduate in Japan and in the BGA (Berkeley Global Access) program different from our BISP(Berkeley International Student Program). The first impression on him is that he was born in a rich family in Beijing and bought a Mustage speed car when he once entered this land for a semester. However, as time went by, I found he is such an amazing guy, optimistic, always bearing a laugh, study hard and play harder, though stayed up late sometimes. He would gave us a lift from & to schools, shopping, ETS tests and catching flights without any returns. Especially, as the last person to depart from SFO, he drove all of us three to the airport one by one and seemed like he really enjoyed this! He travelled so many places, where I wish I could but failed due to teh academic pressure. Samples including the Yellow Stone National Park with Gao Si, Wisconsin, New York, Boston, North California, the Big West Circle, Hawaii, Las Vegas and so on. He is an excellent driver, even in the sucking road of California where others regard the limit speed as the bottom speed. When leaving, he also shocked me by mastering four kinds of Languages: Mandarin, English, Japanese and German. I believe that he will succeed in his application season for such a diversity!
Now it comes to Gao Si, I think he is a person with cold outfit but warm heart. At the first few days, when taking bus with him, he barely said anything with a voice only himself could ever listen. For this reason, I even asked whether he always talk like this or not. Nevertheless, after sharing the room together several weeks, I found him good at talking on the bed and in the late evening. The topics ranging from Economy, Millitary, Politics, Universities, and even favorite girls. He was the one who could last to the end. Additionally, I found him is good at cooking, at least better than me, who is the second I think. I learnt a lot of dishes from him such as ribs&peppers, seeweed&ginger&egg&meatball soup. Though he played PUBG a lot, almost equivalent to 30 credit workload of courses, he always wake up with his quilt folded. Before his departure, we engaged in poke games for two days, wining bears from 0to 500000. One mememberable experience was that it was a player called “且行且珍惜” with captial 8.5 million together with a girl maybe his girlfriend or something. It was a nightmare to play poke against him. When he was throwing bombs, he was certainly sure that he gonna win, and it proved to be right. When the luck went out, he stayed still as a computer was in charge and refused to throw any bombs to double or double double the loss. There was a time when he was holding a big boomb with another random card. And we initially suggested that we must loss with big boomb in his hands. However, after some discussion, we began to reconsider the situation and came to hte conclusion that he would not abe able to escape. And we are not lucky, when teh ratio is doubled and doubled while getting no response from him, he suddenly put a big boomb and take in charge the game. He wassuch an intelligent man that masters physicology.(后注:什么玩意,我自己都没看懂)
